Pisa /
Florence 2007 Skip this blurb - see the pics here Based on the response to my last trip pics I am going to try and keep this brief! Flew Ryanair from Liverpool on Wednesday [£70] to Pisa Airport. Got taxi to a B&B across town. Stayed in Pisa for two days of sun and sigthseeing, then got the train to Florence where I had pre-booked a self catering apartment with hostelbookers.com I saw lots of old buildings, narrow windy streets and 4 storey apartments. People everywhere on the streets, a real buzz to the place. I ate Pizza, drank Vin Rosso and Pistachio Ice Cream. I basked in the cultural coolness of Michael Angelo's 'David', Botochelli's 'The Birth of Venus' and a handfull of Da Vinci's as well as performing headstands in front of the famous Pisa tower. I haggled with market traders, listened to cool jazz sax and guitar in the Piazza's and tried my hopeless attempts at ordering food from the tolerant restaurant owners. There's eye candy everywhere for girls and boys alike and cycles have priority over every other use of the road. Scooter riders have arguments on their mobile whilst negotiating roundabouts and people park on zebras... I got caught up in a carnival to bless the first wine of the year with two huge oxen towing a few hundered bottles of vino before presenting the priest with the best for his 'blessing'. Evening meals outside in the warm air followed by slow strolls through the narrow streets catching impromtu entertainers including a very cute young lady playing the Theramin !!! Mornings woken to bird song, church bells and the smell of Cappucino and Croissants .... All highly recommended !!! |
