My Trip to Germany

I flew BA (£167 Return) from Manchester to Berlin: Tegel (Berlin has three Airports) I stayed in Berlin
for two days then took a train to Rostock (See Map at bottom) and stayed with my friend Susanne for three
days. I have to say I was totally impressed with the trains (some were like space ships compared to those
in the UK) the buses and inner city trams. They were very clean and on time !!! Berlin was very interesting
with a mixture of very old and very new buildings, and ongoing building developments which have accelerated
in the former East of the city since unification in 1989/90. Most people visiting are curoius about the chain of
events relating to the Berlin wall and how the city and country was divided. I was amazed at how much had
changed over the last 12 years and how knowledgeable my friends were of there own history.

During my visit I saw a car made out of compressed cardboard (The Trabant: In the former East cars were
in limited supply and waiting lists years long) a boat made out of concrete (Produced post war as materials
in short supply, Yes it floated !!) the now famous Checkpoint Charlie (Border between the US and USSR
sectors of Berlin) and in Rostock, the oldest working astonomical clock in the World (1379) which told me
the day I was born on !!!
